I think I decided I wanted to be an engineer when I was 13. Before that I always liked the school subjects which are beneficial for becoming an engineer (maths, science and design technology). At 13 I joined the Air Cadets and wanted to be an Aeronautical Engineer (hence my first degree!) but when I had to leave the RAF because of an injury I chose to change into Biomedical Engineering, I was about 20 at the time. So you have lots of time to decide and the great thing about engineering is that you can change between many of the different specialisms. You may need additional training, but it’s possible πŸ™‚

I kind of liked engineering since i was a kid, because my dad is also an engineer, so i always liked what he did. But i wanted to be a heart surgeon first, until i was 14, and then i realised i don’t really like the hospital environment, and my passion for engineering increased as i looked around more, and noticed how many cool things have been built and designed by engineers πŸ™‚

Since my second last year of university.
I had two summer placements before I started my third year and it gave me a flavour of how applied maths can be used in engineering.
