      I love my job.

What I don’t enjoy is all the admin (paper work) side of the job, managing budgets, ordering materials and the like.

And I hate tidying up 😉

I feel like I spend half my life putting tools away!!

I like many parts of my job! Otherwise, I most probably wouldn’t be doing it 🙂
A PhD is great because whilst you have a set topic area, it is very broad and you can choose what you want to do specifically a lot of the time. I love that, because whilst there are still things I need to do that I don’t really enjoy (e.g. writing applications for ethics and other similar admin!) there’s so much more that I do enjoy so it’s well worth it.
I like that my days are full of variety. I am often able to pick and choose what I want to do depending on my mood: if I want to write, there are always things to write up (results, methods, planning) or if I just want some space, I can go to the workshop and make or test things and if I just want to sit and work on my code with my headphones on and loud music, I can do that!

I think if you don’t like your job, it probably means you shouldn’t be doing it. I love what I do, I love solving problems and come up with new ideas. I love being surrounded by like-minded people who I can learn so much from. As they say, do what you love and you don’t have to work a day in your life! 🙂
