No I was only ever encouraged to be an engineer by family and friends.

No. I’ve had disagreements about being an engineer, but no one has ever stopped me.

Quite a bit of my extended family did and my mum did for a little bit. Some of my family are quite traditional and so didn’t think engineering was an “appropriate” career choice for a female. My extended family have accepted I am an engineer and are very supportive and interested in what I do now.
My mum thought that she knew what I wanted more that I did and told me I should go into business because she thought I was better at that than engineering, but she helped me along the way to be an engineer anyway. Even now she sometimes tells me what I like and what I’m good at even though I’ve lived away from home for a long time now. It can be irritating but she does it because she wants me to be happy. She just doesn’t know me as well as she thinks sometimes!

No not really, my family always told me to choose what you like and you think you will enjoy 🙂
