My project might sound complicated, but it can benefit industries, people, environment.

My project has applications in aerospace, automotive, and defence.

I’m finding a new technique to use instead of drilling for composite materials. Composite materials are as strong as metals, but light-weight as well (opposite to metals which are very heavy). Currently, some parts on the cars and aeroplanes can’t be made out of composite materials because drilling them can decrease their strength. My technique will allow these industries to make holes in the composite without decreasing their strength. Hence more parts can be made out of composites and then holes can be made by this technique. Using more composite will make the cars/planes/armours lighter. if the planes and cars are lighter they will use less fuel, which is both economically and environmentally better. This can also be very useful in the defence industry which can save loads of lives.

My project will directly benefit the amputees that will get to use my technology to improve their prosthetic fit. They’ll be able to walk more comfortably and prevent further injury to themselves. The technology is very transferrable and so it could be used to monitor patients wit other disabilities or even help athletes improve their performance. When it’s used in hospitals, it will save a lot of resources and time and money for them as they won’t have to keep remaking prosthetics that don’t fit. There are lots of ways 🙂
